Brandon is one of our most loyal customers at our brick and mortar shop, Zoomdweebie’s Tea Bar. If there has been a week over the past two or three years since he first discovered us that Brandon has not stopped in, I certainly can’t remember it. He is always there, enjoying our teas and sharing his quirky sense of humor with everyone around him.

Brandon kind of reminds me of a snickerdoodle–a bit spicy and tough on the outside, but warm and inviting once you get to know him.

Brandon likes to make some of his own concoctions at Zoomdweebie’s, asking me to brew him up a little of this with a little of that (or to brew the hot tea into a mug full of gummy bears as I recall…) One of his recent favorites is to blend vanilla and cinnamon teas which he has been hounding me about blending together and naming it “Brandon’s Blend”.

Here then, Brandon, is your fifteen minutes of fame.

For those of you who closely watch for our new tea each week, I apologize; I’m having a really rough week, but I’m doing my best to pull my head out and get my poop in a group.

This week’s tea ought to help. It’s our premium black teas blended with real dried cranberries, freeze-dried strawberries and natural flavors. Just the thing for a delicious iced tea after what seems like two months of 110-degree weather here in Wichita, Kansas.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I am!

Orange you glad we didn’t just do another ho-hum Orange tea? Oh, my darjeelings, we couldn’t do that to you!

Instead, here’s a blend of real Margaret’s Hope Estate Darjeelings blended with real orange peel and natural orange and cream flavors. It’s a Dreamsicle Darjeeling. There’s some purists out there who might find it an outrage that we would create a flavored blend with what is known as the “Champagne of teas”, but we’re not scared. Give this a shot and you’ll be wondering why no one has attempted it before.

Just remember that Darjeeling is a bit more delicate than most black teas. Some tea nerds would argue that it is technically an oolong, as it is only oxidized about 90%. The upshot of all of this is that you have to steep it in water just below the boiling point (180-190°) for three to four minutes only.

So, without further ado, here is our orangey-creamy, delicious darjeeling tea of the week:

What a week! And what a crazy month May was. I’m pooped just thinking about it. We were at the Kansas Sampler Festival in Leavenworth , KS the first weekend of May; at the Wichita River Fest the third weekend of May; and in between and immediately following those events, I lost my long time assistant, Chelsea, gained and lost another helper and have now gained another helper (who will hopefully be the last person I have to hire and train for a while). Oh, and of course, we had to have our big Memorial Day Weekend Tin Blowout. (If you missed out on that, you should just kick yourself now, because it was a GREAT deal (I’m still second-guessing it )). I think we had more than 70 packages go out earlier this week.

Anyway, for those of you who signed up for our email list at the Kansas Sampler Festival and River Fest, welcome, and congratulations to Claudia Larkin who won a six week subscription to our tea of the week plan. If you didn’t win the drawing, don’t fret, there are frequently opportunities to win free tea from us for being a subscriber to our email newsletter. (More on that in a moment…)

So, on to our Tea of the Week: This was a suggestion from one of our customers, and I spent an hour digging through my email folders and searching our facebook page, but I couldn’t find the original suggestion anywhere, so I couldn’t put his or her name on the blend.

Anyway, when I first got the suggestion, I realized I was going to have to MAKE some Zabaglione to try, because not only had I not tried it before, but I had never HEARD of it before. Well after trying it (for those of you who never have, I would say it is something like a custardy (flavor, not texture) whipped cream with a hint of wine. After trying it, I was not at all sure that we would be able to make a tea that hinted of the complexity of Zabaglione, but after some trial and error, we now have…

The ice cream shop was out of my favorite butter pecan ice cream a while back, so I decided we should create a butter pecan ice cream tea!

Here it is: our premium black tea blended with organic vanilla bean bits, pecan pieces and natural vanilla, pecan and (just a touch) butter flavors. I made a big iced cup of this to take home today. I was going to save a little for my wife to try, but (sorry Sheri) it didn’t last that long. I know most people enjoy these nutty kinds of tea hot, but it was a delicious iced tea, let me tell you–a nice bold black iced tea with just a solid hint of vanilla-y, buttery pecan goodness. Yum. I hit the bottom of my cup way sooner than I anticipated.

As we gear up for the summer blockbusters with the release of “Clash of the Titans” (which the original remains one of my all time favorite movies), I find myself getting a bit nostalgic for those summers as a teenager (when the original “Clash of the Titans” came out) when I didn’t have any real responsibilities. Didn’t we all just take that teenage freedom for granted something awful?

Anyway, I was thinking about those lazy summers when school was out and my friends and I would go out to the afternoon matinees, maybe sneak into see more than one show… and the popcorn with pounds of butter and, well, the Raisinettes! I mean, there were those perverts who preferred Goobers, but anyone who knew anything about movie theater snacking, knew that Raisinettes were where it was at.

So, for our tea of the week this week, I’ve concocted a Raisinette inspired blend of premium black teas, milk chocolate chips, organic cacao nibs and sun-dried raisins. Hope you enjoy!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day from 52teas!

Mike-the-Nerd is a longtime friend of my Mom’s. When she met him, I think she knew 3 or 4 Mikes and so they all got addendums to their names. There was Mike-the-Nerd, Mike-the-Gay, and a couple of others that I forget.

Anyway, Mike-the-Nerd came to visit us last month for our big Groundhog’s Day Party and he suggested we should create an Irish Creme tea. I thought it would be cool to create it for the week of St. Patty’s Day, so here it is!

You can opt-out any time you like.
