It is one of the things I absolutely love most about my job is experimenting with new flavor combinations and creating new and unique blends. I have to admit that some of our experiments are more successful than others. Some of the blends we create are good, some are great, and a few, like this week’s Tea of the Week, are just phenomenal!

Sweet African honeybush appears to be MADE for tropical flavors. Combine it with dried pineapple, unsweetened coconut flakes and a touch of rum flavor, and you’ve got a tea so soothing, relaxing and pleasing to the senses, that, like I wrote on the label, you ought to be required to sip it from a hammock on the beach.

We hope this tea blows you away as much as it did us. I’m seriously thinking this might be one to enter into the World Tea Championships next year. Enjoy!

Tea Tip of the Week

How to make a fat-free tea latte: Combine 1 can of fat free sweetened condensed milk with 3 cans of skim milk in a saucepan, heat and stir until uniform. Combine resulting mixture with hot tea in equal parts tea and latte. Thank me out loud for sharing our latte recipe.

Leftover latte will keep in the fridge for a few days, allowing you to either reheat, or use to make iced tea lattes, of which, the coconut cream pie flavored black tea iced tea latte is the KING.

So, today is my birthday, and I’m stuck at home with a nasty head cold, and I mean, that’s okay. It happens, you know. But I had planned to do something completely different for our tea of the week this week, but instead I am using one of my lifelines here, but I don’t really think you guys are going to mind.

Our Coconut Cream Pie flavored black tea has been one of our bestsellers here at Zoomdweebie’s since we opened. In addition to the pouches of this tea that we’ve sold, we sell a LOT of beverages made from this tea, in particular, this is probably our all time bestselling iced tea latte, one sip of which has led people to exclaim, “That’s like coconut cream pie in a glass!” I’ve also been frequently challenged on our assertion that our tea lattes are all fat-free, particularly with this tea.

It is simply so decadent, so wonderfully sweet and satisfying, that people cannot believe that we didn’t just liquefy a slice of coconut cream pie and serve it to them in a glass.

For the 52teas version of this tea, we are adding some honking-big flakes of unsweetened coconut to our premium black tea blend along with coconut and vanilla flavors. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do, and I promise that next week, we’ll get back to more creative pursuits.

Tea Tip of the Week

Never fill your tea kettle with hot tap water. It might sound like a good idea to help get your water heated up faster, but have you ever tasted hot tap water? Noticed a funny metallic taste? Hot water heaters have magnesium anode rods built into them which are there for one reason only: to decay. The process of allowing the magnesium rods to break down is what keeps your hot water heater tank from rusting and breaking down. It’s a sort of sacrificial lamb. I’ll have my tea, hold the magnesium, please.

The date palm (Phoenix Dactylifera) is known as “The Tree of Life” and serves as a holy symbol to the people of the Islamic faith. Dates are perhaps the oldest tree crop cultivated by man dating back more than 5000 years. The fruit of the date palm is naturally sweet and honey-like and was once reserved for royalty and other dignitaries. In fact, dates have been found in earthen jars in the tombs of Pharaohs and Kings, so placed to give them sustenance in their trip to the afterworld.

When “zenbitch” suggested we make a tea with dates, we weren’t sure if it had ever been done before (which made us want to do it that much more). After several rounds of discussions with our natural flavorings expert, mostly just to assure him that, yes, we knew it wasn’t raspberry or strawberry or some of the other same-old-song-and-dance flavors, and yes, we still wanted it, we managed to create a tea blend that is amazingly satisfying to the discerning palate.

This blend is a little too complex to be quaffed like a glass of iced sun-tea after an afternoon mowing the lawn; this blend is going to require your full attention as each sip unfolds on your tongue, revealing the ancient flavors of a middle eastern bazaar: sweet dates, coconut and just a touch of vanilla. Enjoy.
