Here’s something a little different this week. If you have been watching 52teas for any amount of time, you’ll already be aware of my love affair with honeybush. Well, we have made it official and launched our newest brand and website: MySweetHoneybush.com.

I love creating new honeybush blends so much, that I decided we needed a new platform just for my honeybush blends. You will find all kinds of honeybush blends on the new website, with more to come. So, by way of introduction to the new site, here is our Tea of the Week for June 28th, 2010, MySweetHoneybush.com‘s Lemonbushomile.

And WOW, you guys are going to LOVE this. It is red honeybush blended with chamomile, lemongrass, lemon peel, hibiscus, lemon myrtle, and natural lemon flavors. It is SOOOO delicious and relaxing, hot or iced. Personally, I am not a huge chamomile fan, but blended with the sweet red honeybush, it is amazing!

So, go visit our new website to see all of the cool honeybush blends we are creating. The Lemonbushomile is available there and (temporarily) here. Enjoy!

I’ve been itching to post this one all week. I can’t wait to hear what you guys think of it. Thanks to my mother for the awesome suggestion. We were talking about what we should do for a Mother’s Day blend this year and this is what she suggested. Honestly, I can’t recall my mom ever actually baking one of these, but my grandmother did, and it seems a mom-ish sort of thing. Either way, it’s DELICIOUS!

Our caffeine-free African Honeybush (I know this is two Honeybush blends in a row, but I couldn’t resist), blended with dried pineapple and just a touch of freeze dried cherries and natural flavors. We’ve included the natural essences of cake, pineapple, brown sugar and even a hint of maraschino cherry to top it all off.

Not only are we offering a great blend this week, but in honor of Mother’s Day, we will send it to your mom FREE with any gift Tea of the Week subscription. Now through Mother’s Day, order any Tea of the Week subscription (starting at just $47 for six weeks of tea delivered anywhere in the US or Canada), and we will send a pouch of our Pineapple Upside-Down Cake Honeybush as an added bonus! Check out our Tea of the Week plans HERE. Your mom will love you for it. (Well, okay, your mom will probably love you anyway, but I bet you would be her favorite for a little while!)

Sorry this post is so late this week. We just had our big Groundhog’s Day Party at Zoomdweebie’s yesterday. It’s the biggest event of the year for us. We sing Groundhog’s Day carols and have a guest speaker give a talk on a topic of importance to groundhogs. We have a scavenger hunt and eat some ground-hog and biscuits while we await the midnight appearance of the Great Groundhog. Anyway the planning and preparation and then the actual event itself sort of messed up my weekly routine, but I think you are going to find this week’s blend was worth the wait.

We’ve been working on this one for a couple of months now and I think we’ve finally gotten it perfect.

Our caffeine-free African honeybush blended with real freeze dried raspberries and all natural flavors. This blend is the complete danish in a cup: raspberries, cream cheese, even a hint of icing thrown in there. If you don’t believe me, you’ll just have to try it for yourself, but don’t take too long deciding, this one is going to go fast!

Before I ever create new blends with ingredients I am unfamiliar with, I have to infuse the individual ingredients separately, so I get an idea what I am working with. Some components are actually pretty good on their own (I recently tried a licorice root infusion for a blend we are working on that will have licorice root in it; and it was actually decent just by itself). On the other hand, some items just really need to be blended with something else. Clove and anise infusions are too much for me. But occasionally, we run across a new ingredient that is so startlingly delicious, like this green honeybush, that I just have to offer it up by itself to let you see how great it is.

The green honeybush, like the oxidized red honeybush, is naturally sweet, like a Chinese green tea, but with a slight hint of lemony citrusy goodness. I found it very refreshing as an iced beverage, and look forward to hearing what you guys think.

You may recall me telling you in previous posts that honeybush is an African evergreen shrub, very similar to the rooibos plant. It is 100% caffeine free and packed with anti-oxidants and other healthy stuff. If you are interested in learning more about honeybush and it’s properties, please check out this site operated by the Agricultural Research Council of South Africa.

Our Pomegranate teas have always been crowd pleasers. We have done black tea, green tea, and white tea with pomegranate, and each has been very well received.

I’ve been going a little bit honeybush crazy lately because I just recently started creating blends with honeybush, and it is fabulous stuff to work with. Our Pina Colada Honeybush remains one of my ALL TIME favorite blends. Please do forgive me if I’ve been a bit overzealous about the honeybush, I promise to take a break from it next week, but I was dying to see how a pomegranate honeybush blend would come out, and guess what? It came out FABULOUS!

Our pomegranate blends are so popular, I think, because we are the only blender (that I know of anyway) that uses real freeze dried pomegranate arils and all natural flavoring in our pomegranate blends.

I’m sure if you really want this as a hot tea, it would be great that way, but I think this one is going to blow your socks off as an iced tea. Make up an icy pitcher for your friends and family and there’s no way this blend will fail to impress.

As always, this is a limited edition blend, so get yours while you can!

I got the freeze-dried orange sections in a few weeks ago and have been itching to use them in a blend ever since. Everybody else has orange peel in their blends, but we found actual, nothing-added freeze-dried orange sections. This blend is going to knock your socks off.

Note that I mentioned even then that I thought we would be entering it into the World Tea Championships (Now known as the North American Tea Championships). Well, we did enter it, our ONLY entry into the competition, and it placed third in the Flavored Herbal Teas category!

If you have not had the chance to try this tea yet, you are cheating yourself out of a wonderful experience. It is as amazing hot as it is iced. Enjoy!

We create a lot of different blends here on 52teas. It is one of the things I absolutely love most about my job is experimenting with new flavor combinations and creating new and unique blends. I have to admit that some of our experiments are more successful than others. Some of the blends we create are good, some are great, and a few, like this week’s Tea of the Week, are just phenomenal!

Sweet African honeybush appears to be MADE for tropical flavors. Combine it with dried pineapple, unsweetened coconut flakes and a touch of rum flavor, and you’ve got a tea so soothing, relaxing and pleasing to the senses, that, like I wrote on the label, you ought to be required to sip it from a hammock on the beach.

We hope this tea blows you away as much as it did us. I’m seriously thinking this might be one to enter into the World Tea Championships next year. Enjoy!
