06.14.10 Fruit Cocktail Green Tea
My grandparents were part of that “Greatest Generation” of Americans. My grandfather served in the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, he became an auto mechanic and opened his own garage. My grandmother was a registered nurse. In my recollection of her, I always thought she came from something of a well-to-do family, or she had aspirations to be a well-to-do family. (I can’t help but think about Hyacinth Bucket in the BBC comedy Keeping Up Appearances; my grandmother wasn’t that bad, but there was an element of Hyacinth in her).
Anyway, whenever the family got together at grandma’s house, she had these extravagant meals planned that frequently started with fruit cocktail. I can’t say why this fact has stuck in my memory more than others, but I remember the Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve dinners with fruit cocktails all around to start. I remember thinking it was like getting dessert before dinner.
So, in memory of my grandparents, here’s our delicious Chinese sencha blended with real peach, pear, pineapple and natural peach, pear, pineapple and maraschino cherry flavors. It’s so delicious, you could serve it as a first course.

Incidentally, I am going to TRY offering the tea in two- and four- ounce quantities. This is a bit of an experiment for me to see how it goes. You can get one two ounce pouch for $7.99 or two pouches for $12.99. At least until we start running low on pouches, then it might go back to just two ounce pouches.

So, we really want you to subscribe to our email newsletter, and we want you to read the posts we send you. I may not be John Grisham, but I think I write some pretty stirring prose about our teas.
So, our free pouch giveaway contest is going to change. From now on, one or more of our posts each month may contain an invitation like the one below. You must actually have the post in your email inbox to reply to in order to win, so if you haven’t already done so, please take a moment to fill in your name and email address under the “Join Our Mailing List” section on our website. You can opt-out any time you like.

06.29.09 Peach Cobbler a la mode Flavored Black Tea
Just in time for the end of June, here’s our premium black teas blended with real freeze dried peaches, cinnamon stick pieces and a dollop of vanilla. Add a little cream and sugar, or blend it with a little vanilla ice cream to make a tea shake (Yes, seriously; trust us, we’re professionals–and we’ve tried it.) and prepare to be blown away. Or just make some nice sun tea out of it for sipping in the shade. Any way it goes, this tea is a fabulous treat.

Banana Peach Flavored Green Tea
It has been an incredibly long week at Zoomdweebies this week, culminating with our 2nd Annual Groundhog’s Day Party, which was an absolute blast, but I’m really glad it’s over now. I’m afraid I really goofed and thought I had some supplies that I didn’t have. I was planning on blending a chocolate raspberry black tea based on one of the requests we got on our forum. But I wanted real dried raspberries, and though I was sure I had some, I was mistaken.
Tea Tip of the Week
Green tea should NEVER be steeped in boiling water. Steep in water that is around 160-180°F, and ONLY for 2-3 minutes. If you use water that is too hot, or steep the tea for too long, the water begins to break down the woody tissue of the plant and it releases excess tannins into your tea, which makes it bitter.
So, being at the last minute and all, and trying to be a good host to our Groundhog’s Day Party guests, I just went in the back and looked around at what we did have and decided on this. I know we have lots of suggestions still waiting on our forums, but I was a little panicked at not being able to proceed as planned, and after the week I’ve had, I guess I just decided that I really needed something light and sweet and relaxing. And while I hope that your week was less hectic than the one I’ve had, I hope you will agree that sometimes we can all use something light, sweet and relaxing…
…like a banana peach flavored green tea with real no-sugar-added dried banana and peach pieces. Think of it like tea with a hint of cool refreshing fruit smoothie added in. Enjoy!
We will continue with the blends suggested by our readers next week. For now, I hope you will forgive me and enjoy this Ah-inspiring blend.
Incidentally, please do continue to post suggestions on our forum, and don’t get discouraged if we don’t get to it right away. One thing to think about with your suggestions: I am trying to keep a good variety going for our subscribers. I don’t want to do too many black teas or rooibos or chocolate teas in a row. VarieTEA is the spice of life. Also, I would love to hear some suggestions for white teas, oolongs, puerhs, chamomile… Just keep them coming.
