Product Description

Tea of the Week for September 7, 2020!

I came up with this idea as I was browsing the interwebs for a flavor idea with pear - I've been spotting pears in my produce market lately & I love pears - so I decided I needed to blend something with pear - but with a twist.

I really like how this one came together. It starts with organic Chinese Sencha tea - sweet & buttery! - then I added a bunch of freeze-dried, diced pears, some vanilla bean along with some amaretto & cream essences. You get notes of the acerbic almond liquor (don't worry, it's both alcohol & nut free!) which is contrasted with the sweet, luscious pear notes & a kiss of vanilla cream - with that smooth green tea base - it makes for a really compelling cuppa that is keeping me happily sipping.

This blend is all organic, VEGAN, alcohol free, gluten free & allergen free (nut free)!

Taster size is approximately 15g

organic ingredients: green tea, pears, vanilla beans & natural flavors

I just love it when a blend comes together well. I wasn't sure how this one would turn out, to be honest with you. I've never actually tried Amaretto before, much less Amaretto pears. My experience with Amaretto is teas flavored with it and I've enjoyed those - and I guess Amaretti cookies? Which aren't actually made with Amaretto, but with almonds. The ones that I can find at my local grocer are made with apricot pits - which I think (I'm totally not certain on this) but I think that Amaretto can be made with almonds OR apricot (or peach) pits. But anyway, point is, I've not had Amaretto save for some Amaretto flavored teas and I've had those yummy, crispy Amaretti cookies from my local grocer that are made with apricot pits. That's pretty much my very limited experience with Amaretto/Amaretti.

I do like this flavor combination though - I get the notes of bitter almond. I get the sweet pear. I get the notes of vanilla cream. Those flavors together with the smooth Sencha is sublime. A really nice balance of flavors.

to brew: Use 3g of leaf to 12 ounces of very hot water (175°F) & steep for 2 minutes. strain & allow to cool for at least 5 minutes for best flavor.

I know I say this often, but this tea really needs that cool time. The flavors tend to be a bit sharp when first strained - but they smooth out & become nicely balanced with the cool time. Sugar is not needed here - but I found that a teensy bit of sugar did enhance the vanilla cream notes a bit.
