Reblended for the Holidays!

I was originally planning to do an original Oolong blend, but when I got the results in from the poll & I saw the overwhelming number of votes for this tea, I decided to change things up a bit & reblend this one rather than create a new Oolong.

As I sit here, sipping on this beautiful Tie Guan Yin (smooth, creamy & floral) with sweet banana notes - I'm really happy with the decision I made. This is so good. Not all fruit notes go well with a green Tie Guan Yin but banana - WORKS! So yum!

This is my second time reblending this tea. The original was crafted back in 2015 during our first few months doing the 52Teas thing. The reblend was for the holiday box in 2017 - back then, my description for this tea went like this:

Among the Oolong teas in our holiday poll, this tea actually came in second. The front runner for the Oolong teas was actually the Sparkle Pony tea, but unfortunately, I did not have the type of Oolong that blend needed (I thought I had some in stock but after heading to my tea studio with plans to reblend Sparkle Pony only to find that I didn't have the tea) and since I get that tea from China, I didn't have the time to order the tea - I ran the risk of it not arriving in time because the shipping from China is very unreliable. Sometimes, I'll get it promptly (and by promptly, I mean within 3 weeks), other times, I may end up waiting 2 - 3 months. (No, I'm not exaggerating.) I didn't want to take the chance that the order would not arrive in time and I wouldn't have the tea blended. So instead, I made this one - and I do plan on reblending Sparkle Pony sometime in the new year.

However, this tea did almost as well as the Sparkle Pony - it was off by just 1 vote! - so I hope you're not too disappointed that I reblended it!

Here's my original description of this tea:

While scanning some of the reviews appearing on Steepster - as I often do - I came across a review for one of the older Oolong Teas produced by 52Teas and although it wasn't a banana flavored Oolong, they mentioned that they taste banana flavors in the tea. So, I thought, hey, why not a Banana Oolong?

Sounds good to me! I thought it might sound good to you too. So I went ahead and made it - and I'm very pleased with the result - really yummy! The banana is strong but doesn't overpower the sweet, luscious, lightly floral notes and hints of nutty flavor from the TieGuanYin. I love the way the tea and flavor meld - really nice!

I stayed true to the recipe (it's a really easy recipe!) however, the TieGuanYin is different because this TieGuanYin came from a different supplier than the previous blend. I find this particular TieGuanYin to have a somewhat stronger floral note than I recall from the previous blend - but it plays very well with the fruit notes. This is still beautifully banana! The banana is sweet and it melds fantastically well with the natural creamy tones of the Oolong tea. It has a silky texture with a taste that is sweet with fruity and floral notes - I love it!

Unlike in 2017, this tea was the front-runner in the poll - by a LOT! I stayed true to the recipe - except this time, I utilized an organic green TieGuanYin (last time, it was a conventionally grown TieGuanYin) & LOTS of bananas! A fairly simple recipe, simple & YUMMY!

Large pouch is approximately 25g

organic ingredients: oolong tea, bananas & natural flavors

I know I've mentioned it a couple of times in the description above, but this is REALLY, really good. I guess it's been a while since I last sipped on this tea so I find myself loving every indulgent sip. The banana is really perfect in this - strong, sweet banana flavor with a sweet, silky Oolong that is floral - but not so floral that it gets in the way of the enjoyment of the banana.

A really delightful cuppa!

to brew: I brewed this with my gaiwan, using 3g of leaf to the gaiwan & filling it with very hot water (180°F) & allowing it to steep for 30 seconds. I then resteeped the leaves (adding just 5 seconds onto the steep time for the resteep) & added that infusion to the same cup.

Another way to steep this would be to use 3g of leaf to 12 ounces of very hot water (180°F) & steep for 3 1/2 minutes. strain & allow to cool for about 5 minutes. enjoy.

Be sure to resteep the leaves. TieGuanYin can be resteeped several times with no significant loss of flavor. The banana flavor may begin to mute after the second or third infusion, but the flavor of the TieGuanYin is still quite lovely!
