11th Tea of Christmas: Strawberry Pie Honeybush!

On the 11th Day of Christmas, 52Teas has for you: Strawberry Pie Honeybush!
Tea Description: I am loving this! I'll be real & admit that it took me a minute to get into it. My first couple of sips were a bit more cinnamon than they were strawberry & that caused a concern. Not that I'm opposed to cinnamon, I love a good cinnamon cuppa - but this is supposed to be Strawberry Pie, not cinnamon pie. So - worry.
But, I gave it a couple more sips & realized that after about the 3rd sip, the flavor was STRAWBERRY! Like WOW! That's strawberry! I fell in love because that was what I was looking for & the cuppa delivered.
This is a reblend originally from Frank's era (from late 2010). I reblended it as part of our Kickstarter start-up campaign rewards. My description back then went like this:
This is one of the blends that I really enjoyed - so I didn't toy around with the recipe too much.
The original post from 52Teas describes this tea as:
"Here’s our strawberry pie flavored honeybush with real freeze dried strawberries, organic vanilla bean bits, cinnamon and all natural flavors including strawberry, vanilla and hints of butter, brown sugar and cinnamon!"
That sounded good to us, so we kept to the recipe.
I stayed true to that recipe - because again - yummy! Now that I've continued to sip, I'm picking up on some brown sugar notes & some vanilla creaminess. The flavor is strongly strawberry with lovely, warming notes of cinnamon. Oh, and it's organic, VEGAN, gluten-free & allergen-free - as well as naturally caffeine-free!
organic ingredients: honeybush, strawberries, cinnamon pieces, vanilla bean & natural flavors
I know I said it above - but it bears repeating: I am loving this! It is so yummy!
The strawberry is strong now, I get a lovely burst of strawberry throughout the sip & the finish delivers that berry tingle on the tongue. The cinnamon is warm now, but unlike the first couple of sips, I'm not getting an overwhelming cinnamon note that is overpowering the strawberry (so the key is to let the flavors develop here!) The vanilla comes through as does the brown sugar notes. The honeybush adds a hint of nutty flavor without taking over the cup.
A really, really nice way to end the day!
to brew: shake the pouch well - as the bits of vanilla bean may settle to the bottom of the pouch & you want those dispersed throughout. use 4g of leaf to 12 ounces of very hot water (195°F) & allow to steep for 10 minutes. strain & allow to cool for at least 5 minutes. enjoy!
Good & solid tasting cuppa without sweetener. I found that a wee bit of sugar brings the brown sugar notes forward just a bit, so if that's something you're looking for in your cuppa, try adding just a bit of sugar.
