For the Tenth TEA of Christmas, 52Teas sent to me . . .

Tea Description: This tea was originally blended during Frank's last holiday season of his tenure of running 52Teas - and if I remember correctly, I had brewed up the entire contents of the 1/2 ounce pouch to make a full pot of tea that I enjoyed over a couple of hours. (Thank goodness for the "keep warm" feature on my Breville One-Touch!)
It was quite a lovely tea back then - and it's a very lovely tea now!
Frank's original description went like this:
Organic Royal Golden Yunnan infused with organic eggnog flavors, cinnamon chips, marigold petals and a touch of nutmeg. This long, tippy-leafed Yunan steeps a smooth cup with rich aroma and superb taste. The hints of creamy eggnog and spices just makes it an extra special treat.
I stuck pretty close to the recipe with this except that instead of using 'cassia' for the cinnamon, I used real Ceylon cinnamon which does make a slight difference in flavor - but I think it's a very welcome difference. I also used freshly shaved nutmeg. But other than that, the recipe is pretty close to the same (although I'm pretty sure that my Golden Tippy Yunnan came from a different source than the original base).
The Yunnan is remarkably rich. The cinnamon and nutmeg are pleasant and warm without overpowering the drink. The eggnog essence lends a beautifully creamy, almost egg-custard-ish type of flavor to the cup. If you like going latte with your teas - this makes a great tea for that - be sure to brew it a little stronger than usual so that the milk doesn't dilute the tea!
This delicious tea is organic, VEGAN, gluten-free and allergen-free!
organic ingredients: black tea, cinnamon, nutmeg, calendula petals & natural flavors
Oh my goodness! Even though this time of year is BY FAR my busiest with having to make 12 teas in addition to my regular monthly teas (5 teas per month), not to mention making sure that I've got my D's Teas in stock and also working on the occasional VIT and extra reblend . . . it's still my FAVORITE time of year. Why? Because I get to taste test all of these teas - and I love taste testing the 12 Teas of Christmas because they're not only your favorites (as evidenced by the votes the teas receive) but also some of my favorites! So I'm thrilled to be able to revisit these teas and enjoy them again!
And this one is absolutely heavenly! The Yunnan that I selected for this base is really spectacular and it has made the blend all that much better. The creamy eggnog together with the slightly spiced, robust Yunnan is so good - I might even argue it's as delightful as a glass of rum-infused eggnog - perhaps even better because TEA! (Besides, I'm not much of a drinker and would choose a cuppa over a cocktail any day!)
This is really good. If I'm to offer any criticism to it at all, it would be this: because the Yunnan has a slightly dry character to it, this does affect the creaminess of the overall drink. To remedy this, a splash of milk of your choice (I personally enjoy coconut milk, but almond milk would be quite nice in this, as would dairy half & half) will enhance the creaminess factor. But as I do explain above, if you do decide to add the milk product, be sure to brew it stronger (use a little more leaf when steeping) so that you don't over-dilute.
to brew: you want to give this a good shake before you measure because the shavings of the nutmeg will settle to the bottom and you want to make sure that the ingredients are incorporated throughout. For a non-latte, use 3g to 12 ounces of nearly boiling (205°F) water. For a latte, use 4 1/2g to 12 ounces of nearly boiling water. Let steep for 3 - 4 minutes. strain and allow to cool for at least 10 minutes. Enjoy!
