Lime Jello Salad Green Tea!
Tea Description: This is one of my all-time favorite green teas from 52teas EVER. If we're going off of just the teas that were blended during Frank's era, then this is my favorite. It is - in my opinion - his best green tea.
So, it really surprised me to find that I only blended this tea once! That one time being when we first took over 52Teas - as part of the Kickstarter contributor reward package. What? I could be wrong (as I didn't devote a great deal of time to my search) but my search results produced no evidence of another reblending of this tea.
When I reblended it in 2015, here's how I described it:
This is one of Anne's all-time favorites! It's great hot, it's great iced. It's just ... GREAT!
Because I loved it so much, I decided to not alter the recipe. So here it is: Organic Chinese green Sencha blended with freeze-dried pineapple, marshmallow root and natural flavors.
(see, told you it was one of my all-time favorites!)
Frank's original description of this tea went thusly:
This is for the under-appreciated hero of the Thanksgiving dinner: Every year, it sits there quivering, unassuming, bright and cheerful and fruity… and mostly neglected for the likes of turkey and stuffing and mashed potatoes.
It’s not your fault, Lime Jello Salad, that your deliciousness is overlooked on such an occasion. Don’t look at me with those pouty marshmallows, condemning me for my turkey lust. Here, I will make a tea inspired by you, and maybe then I will get to enjoy some of your delicious flavors—AFTER I have some turkey!
My wife makes a lime jello salad with lime jello, pineapple, and marshmallow every Thanksgiving. I’m pretty sure I still haven’t tasted it, but it sounded like a great group of flavors to combine with our awesome Chinese sencha green tea. Enjoy! And happy Thanksgiving!
I did make one alteration to the recipe this time - the addition of dried lime wedges.
I know that I've had a few people request this tea (rather recently!) so, I don't think this blend will stick around very long - so grab some while it's in stock because - it may be another 6 years before I blend it again (time flies!)
Yes, of course it's organic, VEGAN, gluten-free & allergen-friendly!
organic ingredients: green tea, pineapple, limes, marshmallow root & natural flavors
As I mentioned - this is one of my all-time favorites. It's just so good. Everything about it works. The base - organic Chinese sencha - has a light sweetness & a creamy/buttery texture that lends a gelatin-ish texture to the cup (without the gelatin so it can be vegan-friendly!), the lime is tart, the marshmallow notes soften the tangy lime a bit so it's not a pucker-y note & there's a lovely kiss of pineapple. So good.
I don't know what else to say except that this blend will not be around long - so I would encourage you to get some because it may be another 6 years before I get around to reblending it again! (I hope not, but ya never know!)
to brew: use 2 1/2 grams of leaf for a lighter cup -or- 3 grams for a more heavily flavored cup. (either measurement produces a really delicious cuppa, I recommend trying it brewed both ways to discover your favorite method.) steep in 12 ounces of hot water (freshly filtered water heated to 175°F) for 2 minutes. strain & allow to cool for at least 5 minutes.
this tea makes a stellar glass of iced tea - it's awesome hot too!
