Mango Sticky Rice Genmaicha
Tea Description: This month is Reblend Month - so that means that all five of our teas this month are fresh reblends of favorite blends from the past! This is one that I get frequent requests for & not only is it one of my favorites, but it's one that I created so the fact that it's a favorite makes me even happier (not to mention very proud!)
Inspired by one of my favorite desserts, this is a blend of genmaicha (this time, blended with our newly sourced genmaicha), toasted sesame seeds, toasted coconut, a touch of natural flavoring to create a lovely, creamy, custard-y flavor & of course: mangoes!
This tea was originally blended back in February 2016. Back then, I described the tea as this:
I love the Mango Sticky Rice dessert that is offered in my favorite Thai food restaurant. It reminds me a bit of rice pudding but with coconut and mango and even just a hint of caramelized flavor to it. So I decided pretty early on when Frank approached me about taking over 52Teas that I would need to create a Mango Sticky Rice dessert in tea form - and really, what base is more perfect than a Matcha infused Genmaicha base? I love the hint of creamy texture that the Matcha adds to this and the popped rice not only adds a hint of nutty rice flavor but also accentuates the touch of caramel flavor that I added to this blend.
This has the flavor of mango sticky rice but not the calories! YUM!
I did make one change to this recipe as I've recently changed my source for genmaicha - this is a better quality tea - but it is not Matcha-infused.
I'm so happy to have this tea back in my cupboard. It's sweet, creamy & oh, so wonderful! Nice notes of mango - silky notes of coconut. A perfect dessert-y cuppa. And yeah, it's organic, VEGAN, gluten-free & allergy friendly!
organic ingredients: green tea, popped/toasted rice, freeze-dried mango, toasted coconut, toasted sesame seeds & natural flavors
As I said above, I'm so happy to have this tea back in my cupboard. It's so yummy. I love the mango, I love the coconut, I love the creamy, custard-y notes - I love everything about it.
There really is nothing more to say but - there is a very limited amount of this tea remaining - - you really should get some!
to brew: shake this tea before you measure. there are tiny, toasted sesame seeds in the blend & they will shift to the bottom of the pouch. so take a moment to turn the pouch upside down and give it a gentle shake to get some of those golden seeds in your measurement! use 2 1/2 grams of leaf to 12 ounces of hot water (heated to 170°F) & allow to steep for 2 minutes. strain & allow to cool for at least 5 minutes. enjoy!
This tea tastes amazing as an iced tea - but is also yummy served hot!
