Tea of the Week for December 17, 2018: Chocolate Moroccan Mint (Green Tea)!

Chocolate Moroccan Mint!

Tea Description: I've always been a fan of Moroccan Mint - but it's never been one that I felt like I needed to recreate because there are a lot of great versions of Moroccan Mint out there - but a Chocolate Moroccan Mint? I cannot recall ever trying one - and really what pairs nicer with mint than chocolate? It's like they were made for each other. 

And this tea is a celebration of that pairing. It brings together the cool, crisp notes of spearmint, the sweet notes of chocolate and the nutty, earthy tones of the gunpowder green tea. The overall flavor of the cup is light (it is a green tea - not meant to be overtly robust) and smooth - yet despite the lightness of the cup - there's a nice balance between the chocolate, the mint and the green tea tastes in each sip.

I used a beautiful Chinese gunpowder, spearmint leaves, cacao nibs & shells to create this delicious blend - and it's organic, VEGAN, gluten free and allergen free (unless you're allergic to chocolate.)

You know, when you are a Mad Tea Artist and are making a brand new tea every week, it's really difficult to find time (or the bladder tolerance) to indulge in teas that you aren't creating. Occasionally, I do get a chance to do that - and that's usually when I stop in a local coffee shop and order something that someone else makes (and really, sometimes that is just absolutely so wonderful to have someone else tend to the making of the tea that I don't mind that I'm paying 5 bucks a cup for it - especially if it's only an occasional indulgence). What I'm driving at here is that it's been a really long time since I've enjoyed a Moroccan mint green tea. And it's one that I used to enjoy fairly often as a tea reviewer. 

So I'm glad to be sipping on one now - even if it's not a 'true' Moroccan mint (because of the chocolate) - but I hope the purists out there will forgive me for saying that I love it with the chocolate! The chocolate softens the mint just a bit (mint can be a pretty aggressive herb in teas) and the mint does a little something with the chocolate, the crisp notes cutting through some of the heavier notes of the chocolate so that the gunpowder green tea can also shine through.

So what you're left with is the best of spearmint, chocolate and green tea dancing on your palate!

to brew: give your pouch a good shake before you measure the tea - the spearmint leaves will no doubt do their best to shift their way to the bottom of the pouch and that will affect the flavor of each cup if you don't shake the pouch to incorporate the leaves. Measure 3g of leaf to 12 ounces of hot water (175°F) and steep for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. For my taste test, I steeped it for 1 minute 45 seconds, and that produces a perfect cup for me - but feel free to play around with the time to get what works best for your palate. strain and allow to cool for about 5 minutes. 

Be sure to resteeep these leaves - they're good for at least 2 delicious cuppas!
