Breakfast in Bed Black Tea!
Tea Description: During these troubled times, I wanted our featured reblend this month to be something comforting - & our Breakfast in Bed is one of my all-time favorite comfort teas. The sweet rose, the warm cinnamon & the creamy vanilla notes meld together so beautifully to create a delicious tea that I love curling up to. So wonderfully delightful!
This blend is one of my LiberTEAS blends - born from an idea from my friend Crystal. Here is my description from April 2018:
Some of you might remember that I blended this within the first year that we took over 52Teas - but I'm not sure how many of you know the story behind this blend. It actually started out as a LiberTEAS blend that I created - inspired by a friend of mine who wanted a rose black tea with vanilla and cinnamon. We came up with the name "Breakfast in Bed" because it was one of those teas that tasted a little bit romantic, something sweet and cozy and completely lovely - something that you'd want to linger over while enjoying a wonderful breakfast in bed.
I officially closed LiberTEAS back in 2009 - at at that time, I thought I had blended my last batch of Breakfast in Bed. But in 2015, when we took over 52Teas, we had a Kickstarter campaign to help us out with the start-up costs of taking over and some of our supporters happened to be customers from my LiberTEAS days - and one of those supporters wanted me to bring back Breakfast in Bed for her. So I did!
That blend sold pretty well - and as it turns out, I've had a few requests to bring it back. One request, in particular, happened to be one I couldn't refuse: My daughter, Amethyst! (Well, she does own the business, after all!) She told me that one of her co-workers loved the blend and wanted more of it. Like I said, I couldn't refuse.
So, here it is, back once again! A delightful blend that starts with a blend of black teas: a Rose Congou and a rich, smooth black tea from Vietnam. To this blend, I added lots of vanilla bean and some cinnamon stick (the real stuff, not Cassis!) The result is a deliciously different "breakfast blend" - the kind of black tea that you want to sip while curled up under your most comfortable blanket - the kind of tea that you'll want to sip when you have time to enjoy your morning rather than rush through it.
My original description for this tea went like this:
As you are probably well aware by now, we held a Kickstarter campaign to get everything we needed to take over this company. One of the incentives for our start-up Kickstarter campaign was to create a VIT blend. I was so thrilled with a few of my customers from my LiberTEAS days pledged their support for this 52Teas venture of ours. And one of my previous customers wanted to create a VIT blend - but here's the cool part: She wanted me to recreate one of my blends that I created in my LiberTEAS days!
I was so excited and proud! (Thank you!)
So here is that tea! I call it Breakfast in Bed because it tastes like the kind of tea that I'd want to sip if I were so fortunate to enjoy a breakfast in bed sometime. It's the kind of tea that makes you feel pampered and indulgent. It's the kind of tea that you want to sip slowly and linger over because you never want the cup to end!
I blend two different teas for the base: A Chinese Rose Congou and a Vietnamese black tea. Then I flavor this tea with vanilla and real vanilla bean and I add a generous sprinkling of cinnamon. Because I only use cinnamon pieces in this and not cinnamon flavoring, the cinnamon doesn't take center stage. It offers a warm yet delicate cinnamon note that doesn't interfere with the other flavors of the cup. It's sweet, it's creamy, it's pleasantly floral. It's luxurious and indulgent.
I love it!
I stuck true to the recipe - except this time around, I added some Yunnan to my blend of Rose Congou & Vietnamese black teas because I didn't have quite enough Vietnamese tea for this reblend & I gotta tell you - I love the addition of the Yunnan! This is deliciously rich & flavorful. Beautiful rose notes, robust black teas, sweet & creamy vanilla & just enough warm cinnamon to add a palate pleasing contrast. (And yes, it's VEGAN, organic, gluten-free & allergen-free!)
This is just what your teacup needs right now!
organic ingredients: black teas, cinnamon, rose buds/petals, vanilla beans & natural flavors
As I mentioned above, I LOVE this tea. It's one of my favorite teas - it's so good! The rose is sweet, the vanilla softens the rose notes just a little - adding a creamy element to the cup. The cinnamon adds just a hint of warmth. So YUM!
to brew: use 3g of tea to 12 ounces of nearly boiling water (205°F). steep for 3 minutes. strain & allow to cool for about 10 minutes. enjoy!
This tea tastes fabulous without any additions. I also enjoy it with just a teensy bit of sugar - which seems to bring out the vanilla tones a little more. I prefer it hot - but it's also good chilled. Just a really - spectacluar tea!
