A Walk in the Woods Green Tea
Tea Description: I just loved the idea for this blend for a couple of reasons: first, it provided me the opportunity to try blending with turmeric. Turmeric is a spice that I've wanted to try out in a blend for a while now & I'm not sure why I've been postponing it except that turmeric is an "in" kind of thing right now & I didn't want to just include it in a blend to be trendy. I wanted it to be there because it just worked within the concept of the tea & with this particular blend - it works! (It works fabulously!)
Second, the stepson of one of my subscribers came up with the idea & I'm just giddy about my subscribers sharing my teas with a younger generation! I'm overjoyed to know that my teas are being enjoyed by people of all ages!
This blend starts with organic Chinese green teas (Chun Mee & Gunpowder) - combined with apples, maple essence & turmeric. The turmeric offers a forward note without being too aggressive, followed by the sweetness of maple-y apple notes. The green tea is earthy & works within the concept of "A Walk in the Woods". That earthiness plays well to the turmeric. The turmeric adds some spiciness to the cup. Turmeric is often bitter, but I think that the sweetness of the maple essence & apple softens that bitter blow enough to make this a treat for the palate.
A fantastic blend - it's also organic, VEGAN, gluten-free & allergen-free!
organic ingredients: green teas, turmeric root, apples & natural flavors
Loving this blend! I'll be honest & admit that going into it, I was a little nervous because turmeric is a spice that can become very bitter if overused - but happily, this has a nice balance to it - just enough bitterness to cut through the sweetness of the maple notes a bit - or maybe it's that the sweetness of the maple cuts through the bitterness a bit? I don't know - you decide! Either way, I'm enjoying the way everything comes together here. The maple is sweet - but not cloying. The apple adds to the sweetness & also brings a touch of fruitiness to the cup. The turmeric brings a touch of spicy to the taste & the green tea enhances the earthiness of the turmeric & it all ties in with the idea of A Walk in the Woods! Such a delightful blend, this!
to brew: give the blend a good shake to distribute the turmeric & apple bits with the green tea leaves. use 2 1/2 grams of tea to 12 ounces of very hot water (175°F) & steep for 2 minutes. strain & allow to cool for 5 minutes. enjoy!
I like to add just a little bit of sugar to this - it brings out the maple-y notes nicely. I think it's fine without sugar too, but I noticed more bitterness from the turmeric without the sugar. To bring out the maple & apple more, try just a little bit of sugar.
