Tea of the Week for November 27, 2017: Chai Spice Marshmallow Treat Genmaicha!

 Chai Spice Marshmallow Treat Genmaicha!

Tea Description: Last year around this time, I crafted a Chai blend for the Holiday box called Winter Cabin Chai - a blend that combined black teas (including some Lapsang Souchong) and masala chai spices as well as marshmallow root. My inspiration for this tea was the idea of sipping on a cuppa chai while sitting in front of a fireplace, roasting marshmallows. As I was blending this tea, I thought of the many various marshmallow teas that we've crafted here at 52Teas - and the Chosen One among all those marshmallow teas would have to be Marshmallow Treat Genmaicha. Then I thought - hey, why not a Chai Spice Marshmallow Treat? Wouldn't that be tasty?

Well, of course it would!

So here we are - now a year later, and I've created that tea. I started with organic, matcha infused genmaicha and added marshmallow root, vanilla bean & marshmallow essence. Then I gave it the chai treatment with organic masala chai spices: cinnamon, ginger, cloves, cardamom and nutmeg.

As I sit here, sipping on a hot cuppa - I'm savoring every sip. Sweet notes of marshmallow and hints of creamy vanilla blended with masala chai spices: It's warm but not spicy - and that warmth gradually builds on the back of your throat as you continue to sip - warming you from the inside out. Soothing and delicious.

And yes! It's vegan, gluten-free & allergen-free!

Now, I want someone to make me a batch of Chai Spice Marshmallow Treats. :)

organic ingredients: green teas, popped rice, marshmallow root, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, cardamom, nutmeg, vanilla bean & natural flavors

Wow - nice! I generally stray from green chai blends because - well, simply put, I prefer black tea in my chai blends. I just think that the bold flavor of black tea works best with chai spices. But occasionally, I do stray from there - and I'm really glad I did this time around - because I'm absolutely LOVING this blend.

When I first blended it, I wanted it to be more like a marshmallow treat that's been lightly flavored with chai spices. But after my first taste test, I decided that it was too much like our regular Marshmallow Treat Genmaicha - and while there's nothing wrong with that - that's been done and if that's what you want, you can get it in our D's Teas collection. So I ultimately decided that this tea needed to be more unique - so I went back and tweaked it a little bit and now, I'm so happy with the outcome! This is not only a strongly flavored 'marshmallow treat' tea - but it's also a chai in it's own right.

I'm loving this!

to brew: give the pouch a good shake to make sure that the ingredients are well-incorporated. use a heaping teaspoon of leaf (there are a lot of spices in this blend, so you do want to use the heaping measurement to make sure you get enough tea and spices!) to 12 ounces of hot water (heated to 175°F) and steep for 2 1/2 minutes. Yes, I said 2 1/2 minutes - not just 2 minutes. The extra time is needed to get a strong showing from the spices and the marshmallow. It's still tasty at 2 minutes, it's just tastier with the extra 30 seconds.

strain, let cool for about 5 minutes and enjoy!
