Test Tasting Tea for the Holidays - Chocolate Orange Cannoli Black Tea!
Posted by on
Yeah, I know, the title of this blog post seems a little bit "behind" the times because - what? The holidays are like - over & have been for about 2 months now. So what gives?
As some of you may be aware, I crafted six teas for Amoda Tea, which is a subscription service that curates a monthly box for their subscribers. OK, so technically, only five of the teas I crafted for them are new creations - with the sixth tea (or the first tea?) being one of our long-time customer favorites & permanent collection blend: Pancake Breakfast.
Since five of the six teas were new creations, I wanted to give Amoda a chance to sell off it's inventory before I offered the remaining inventory on the website - which I've done - but I didn't want to wait any longer to share these teas with you!
So the next few blog posts will not only be about teas of the week of the current month - but will also be tasting notes of the five new teas I created for Amoda ... starting with CHOCOLATE ORANGE CANNOLI BLACK TEA!
This particular tea was inspired by the curator of Amoda Tea (aka LuAnn from The Cup of Life blog) She offered several ideas for a holiday inspired blend - including the combined flavors of orange & chocolate as well as the idea of a cannoli for Christmas. We combined these two ideas - a cannoli & the flavors of chocolate & orange) into one tea.
To craft this blend, I started with a blend of Yunnan teas (a Golden Monkey as well as Yunnan Imperial - both organic) and added cacao nibs & shells, air-dried orange pieces & some allspice. The result is a splendiforously delightful tea (Yes, of course splendiforously is a word . . . you're on the internet where everything is correct.) that has a fantastic balance of chocolate & orange flavors, a nice pastry-like note, a creamy note & just a hint - a subtle tone of spice from the allspice. It's a tea that is sure to please.
And let me tell you guys - it is SO GOOD. This one is absolutely one of my favorites from this past holiday season & because it is an 'exclusive' blend that I crafted for Amoda - the only way this one will be reblended is on the approval of Amoda Tea - so you better grab this one while you can!
