 Blackberry Dumpling Black Tea!

Tea Description: This tea was first released in August 2018. I'm so happy to be bringing it back for this year's holiday box! 

Here's my original description for this tea:

I live in the Pacific Northwest and blackberries are abundant out here. So abundant, in fact, that you can find them growing just about everywhere and they're definitely a favorite fruit in my house. Because they are a favorite and it's been a while since my last blackberry tea - I wanted to celebrate summer (as I hope it's coming to a close soon!!!) with another blackberry tea.

Now, I must confess, I've never actually had a blackberry dumpling but one day while browsing the web I found a recipe for blackberry dumplings and I thought they sounded amazing - so I decided that I should make a tea. Normally, I'd find someplace to try the thing I was trying to recreate in tea form - or at least make the thing - but this time, I decided to try the tea first. They don't call me the *mad* tea artist for nothing!

I started with a blend of rich black teas - Yunnan, Ceylon & Assam - and then I added a bunch of blackberries, a little bit of cinnamon and nutmeg and a buttery, dough-like essence to complete the dumpling.

YUM! This tea is really delightful. The spice is just enough to enhance the berries without overwhelming the blend. The background has an almost 'cookie dough' kind of taste to it. And of course the tea is robust and completes the overall experience (because if I were to make blackberry dumplings, I'd of course make a pot of tea to go with, right?

I stayed true to the recipe with this reblend and this tastes the same as I remember: sweet blackberries, a hint of spice & a sweet pastry-ish taste together with a rich black tea background. It's robust, it's sweet, it's really tasty! It's also organic, VEGAN, gluten-free & allergen free!

I'm glad this one earned it's way into the 12 TEAS of Christmas box because it's one that sold out really quickly & one that disappeared from my personal pantry pretty quickly as well. Mat & I both enjoy this one a great deal. 

The blackberry flavor is sweet & juicy with a hint of that berry tingle toward the finish. The black tea is really rich & flavorful - it melds beautifully with the blackberry notes as well as the freshly baked pastry notes. The warmth from the cinnamon & nutmeg is really nice & makes this a lovely tea for this time of year. It's the kind of tea that I like to curl up to on chilly winter afternoons.

to brew: shake the pouch to redistribute the ingredients. use 3g of leaf to 12 ounces of near boiling water (205°F). steep for 2 1/2 - 3 minutes. strain & allow cool for 10 minutes.

I enjoy this tea straight up (no sweetener added). It's also nice with a wee bit of sugar (I find that the sugar brings out the pastry notes a little more).
