Tea of the Week for March 8, 2021!
I came up with an idea for this tea some time ago, but recently, my aunt requested a relaxation blend. As I didn't currently have a chamomile and/or lavender blends available, I decided it was time to work on this tea.
This blend starts with a blend of Green Rooibos, Chamomile & Lavender - the latter two herbs are renown for relaxation properties. Then I added some marshmallow root, vanilla bean & freeze-dried strawberries.
This blend is so very lovely! Strawberry notes & sweet creamy vanilla top notes with a kiss of a flowery backdrop, it's sweet & fruity & pleasantly smooth & easy to sip. The green rooibos enhances the fruity flavor of the strawberry. The light, apple-y note of the chamomile also adds to the overall fruity taste of this tea. The lavender offers a gentle, sweet floral note.
It's also organic, VEGAN, gluten-free, allergen-free & of course, caffeine-free!
Taster pouch is approximately 15g
organic ingredients: green rooibos, chamomile, freeze-dried strawberries, marshmallow root, lavender, vanilla bean & natural flavors
As I've said in the past, I'm not a big fan of chamomile. I don't hate it, I just don't love it. I find that I like it more if the chamomile blossoms are full & intact rather than crushed to a dust the way it is often offered (especially in tea bags). So, when it comes time to obtain chamomile, I always shop for the biggest, fullest blossoms I can find - that said, I was SHOCKED with the chamomile I sourced this time around. Whole chamomile blossoms, of course - with some of them nearly the size of a dime! WOW - some of these are so big that I questioned for a moment whether they were actually chamomile blossoms!
This tea turned out so nice! A strong strawberry flavor, a nice vanilla note, hints of flower - it's really just so very pleasant & relaxing to sip.
to brew: As I often do with ingredient heavy blends such as this, I highly recommend that you make sure to give this blend a good shake before you measure it out. The smaller ingredients may end up sifting to the bottom of the pouch while the larger, bulkier items will float to the top - put simply, the green rooibos leaves & lavender buds are likely to settle to the bottom of the pouch (along with the teeny, tiny vanilla beans), while the buoyant chamomile blossoms & marshmallow root is likely to float to the top. To get a good representation of the flavor, you want to give the pouch a really good shake to make sure you get a little bit of everything in each measurement.
use 4g of leaf to 12 ounces of hot water (I recommend a temperature of about 190°F) & allow to steep for 10 minutes. strain & allow to cool for at least 5 minutes (10 minutes is even better) & enjoy!
No sugar needed for this blend, I find it to be pleasantly sweet on it's own. A wee bit of sugar will enhance the strawberry & vanilla notes a little bit - so if you want those flavors even stronger, add about 1/2 a teaspoon of sugar to each 12 ounce cup.
