Tea of the Week for May 3, 2021!

The concept of champagne & berries is not a new one - nor is the concept of berries & cream. I love the way these three flavors come together in one cup - along with the smooth, creamy notes of Chinese Sencha - it's a lovely, summery tea that tastes fantastic iced (it's also quite nice hot).

This is it: a lovely blend of our fresh, buttery Chinese Sencha combined with freeze-dried raspberries, vanilla beans & champagne essence (don't worry, it's alcohol free!) The taste is very refreshing. It's got notes of vanilla cream along with notes of sweet-tart raspberry & the champagne is crisp & light. It's really tasty & very summery - reminiscent of a warm summer day without a cloud in the sky, the kind of day you'd like to sit under a tree with a tall glass of iced tea.

This blend is organic, VEGAN, gluten-free, allergen-friendly & as I mentioned before, it's alcohol free.

Taster size is approximately 15g

organic ingredients: green tea, raspberries, vanilla bean, calendula petals & natural flavors

Sometimes, when I go into my tea studio, I go in with a tea recipe - I blend it & I set it to cure & hope for the best. I'm not always sure how it will turn out. Sometimes, I'm disappointed & I need to rethink the tea. Other times - like now - the tea comes out the way I hoped it would & I'm happy. Still other times, I'm totally excited about how well it turned out. This is one of those times - because to be honest, champagne is not a favorite flavor of mine. I'm not much of a drinker (except for tea) so whenever I decide to blend a cocktail-inspired tea, I'm nervous - especially for the moment of truth - when it's time for a taste test.

This time around, it turned out I had nothing to fear. This is absolutely lovely. The champagne notes here are wonderful - lending a crisp fruity flavor to enhance the raspberry flavor. The vanilla cream offers a silky background note that melds beautifully with the fruity notes. Fruity & sweet but not cloying. Smooth. Creamy. Absolutely delightful to sip.

to brew: shake the pouch before you measure the tea (the vanilla beans are teensy-tiny - so you want to give this a good shake so that you get a little bit of vanilla in your measurement!) & use 2 1/2 grams of leaf & fruit to 12 ounces of very hot water (heated to 175°F) & allow to steep for 2 minutes. strain & allow to cool for about 5 - 10 minutes (or allow it to cool completely & refrigerate to enjoy as a cold beverage!)

As I've already mentioned, my favorite way to drink this is iced. (Champagne just tastes better when it's chilled.) But I also enjoyed a hot cup of this. It's nice without sweetener but I prefer it lightly sweetened. I find that the flavors pop a little more if you add a little bit of sugar. It brings out the notes of champagne (which tastes very grape-y). The addition brings the raspberry & vanilla forward a bit as well. Good without the sweetener - but it becomes a different drink entirely with the addition.
